Dia de los Muertos is the Latin American holiday celebrating those who have died. Altars, sugary treats, song and dance are all a part of the celebration. On this day, participants widely believe that the spirits of the deceased return the realm of the living. Somewhat similar to Halloween, many dress in colorful costumes and candies are exchanged. In addition, offerings are gathered and placed at altars for the dead, these are called "ofrendas" in Spanish and can be quite elaborate.
